While Silicon Valley races to build smarter machines, African governments are being sold lofty promises of AI-driven development. Yet, most of these solutions are designed for markets with infrastructures we don’t have. We risk importing not only tools but also the biases and power structures they carry. Instead of rushing to adopt, we should prioritize context-driven innovation, local data governance frameworks, and ethical policies that protect citizens first.
